There’s a little piece today on the news wires concerning a poll of Americans’ attitude about tax burdons. I’ve linked it here. Basically, the gist is that most Americans think that the tax system is unfair and that the “rich” pay too little tax. But is that really the case? What percentage of the total individual income tax do these rich citizens pay? Think about these statistics for 1999.
Really think about the numbers. No matter where you fall on the “progressive” tax scale, can you really say with a straight face that a system where the top 5% pay 50% and the lowest 50% pay nothing is unfair to the low and middle income earners?
But “tax cuts for the rich” like “Bush lied, people die” is a mantra of the liberals to divide people for their own power and to advance a socialist agenda.
