Professor of Literature, Sally Jacobsen of Northern Kentucky University, has issued an apology for her actions in recently vandalizing a pro-life display at the university. Well, sort of. What the professor apologized for was ”embarrassing the university.” She was also sorry that she involved some of her impressionable charges in the incident. You can read about it here. But it also seems that the professor is still resisting the notion that she has offended those with a right to speak in pro-life terms. Notably absent from the reports is an apology to those who erected the memorial to the innocent lives lost. In fact, the professor seems to be offering legal advise aimed at obstructing justice in this case.
In the April 18 e-mail sent to students involved, Jacobsen outlined the class procedure for the rest of the semester and encouraged students to “stay away from LA 517,” which is her office. She also gave the students legal advice. “… If you are named, my advice is to get your attorney to plead you down to a misdemeanor,” she said. “The well-funded Right to Life groups that are pushing for this need felony convictions, I believe, in order to file civil suits for damages.”
Jacobsen also informed the students of the current investigation by the Northern Kentucky University Police Department. “In the meantime, the campus police continue their investigation,” she said. “If you have not yet been interrogated, you do not have to talk to them without an attorney. You can make it hard to find you. Again, I am so sorry.”
So we have a professor who urges students to break the law and infringe on the free speech rights of others, gets caught, regrets getting caught and suggests to those same impressionable charges that they scram. Wonderful example of virtuous courage.
