Once again the United Nations has taken the bull by the horns in dealing with rogue nations. This time Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) seems to give Iran some breathing room in their efforts to develop atomic weapons against international will. Acording to Reuters:
“This is primarily a regional security issue,” Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) he told a debate in The Hague.
“Iran is surrounded by countries that have nuclear weapons, Russia has nuclear weapons, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, Israel has nuclear weapons, Iraq has used chemical weapons against them. There is a sense of insecurity,” he said.
“When you talk about the Iranian issue, the only solution is a package that should inter alia include security issues.”
In part he is right. The security issue is Iran having nuclear weapons and threatening her neighbors. Does this guy listen to the news and has he heard the insane comments coming from the president of Iran?
This is another example of the inability of the UN to maintain world order. The UN is a hopelessly inept institution and for the US, the way to proceed is to organize various countries around certain issues and events. In other words, work around the UN to get what needs to be done by cooperating with other willing nations.
